When he was a new-born infant, Monitus was discovered by a childless couple in a wicker basket floating down a river. Though low on means, this couple was high in spirit – mostly due to the many souls they had trapped in ritual seals in their basement after numerous human sacrifices. Monitus lived with the couple for three years, being trained as their dark apprentice, before he was rescued by a wandering band of travelers (who were, however, unable to kill the couple, who escaped) and taken to an orphanage. Raised by human nuns, who told him all they knew of his history, as he grew Monitus discovered that he maintained many of the powers that his “foster parents” had imbued him with stayed with him. Disgusted by the origins of his power, Monitus vowed to use it for the betterment of all of Greystone by becoming its greatest hero. Should he happen to find his true parents along the way, or meet once again with his foster parents in order to gain revenge, that would just be a positive side-effect of the endless quest for justice.
